On 5th of August 2019, In a bold and legacy shaping move the Indian government scrapped Article 370 which granted special powers to Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union territories; Jammu and Kashmir, which will have a legislature, and Ladakh, without a legislature.

A tsunami of support and 27.52 Crore votes propelled Narendra Modi and the NDA into a second five-year term. The BJP won 303 out 543 seats with 37 per cent of total votes polled, 6 per cent higher than 2014.
The Indian National Congress increased its seat tally to 52 but failed to win a single seat in 15 states. The could only get to 15 seats in Uttar Pradesh
